GAME 1 – 1:00 PM ET
Paterson U (3-1) vs. Silk City Animals (4-0)

WATCH HERE – A7FL.TV and on Youtube @theA7FL

Our first Game of the Week for Week 5 had two heavyweights in the North East Division battling it out in the Paterson U and the Silk City Animals. Despite all the playoff implications for this game along with numerous CVS receipts of trash talk, by far the biggest story going in was how Animals quarterback Quattrell Huffin would fare against his former team.

It was a rainy day in Asbury Park, but both of these teams were well prepared to bring the heat on the field. The Animals would start with the ball as Huff would throw a 14-yard touchdown to the Greek Beast, giving the Animals a quick 6-0 lead. The U stuck with the rushing attack on their first drive and responded with a touchdown of their own, with Marcus “Hard Body” Mckinney taking it in from 13-yards out. After getting the one-point conversion, the U would take a 7-6 lead with 8:29 left in the first. After it looked like the Animals would respond with another score, the U would come up with a huge fumble recovery at their own 2-yard line. With not a lot of room to operate, the U would go 3-and-out and give the Animals the ball right back.  The quarter would expire with the Animals on their own 40-yard line and the score remaining 7-6.

After a sack and a throw-away forced by the U defense, they would get the ball back on their own 6-yard line after a great throw-off by Huff. On the first play of the drive, Hard Body would fumble and give the Animals primetime field position on the U’s 17-yard line. A 6-yard touchdown run from Marquese “Oye” Marrero would give the Animals a 12-7 lead. The U would eat up over six minutes on their ensuing drive and quarterback Kareen Moon would punch it in from the one-yard line, making the score 13-12 at the two-minute warning of the first half. On the ensuing throw-off, Issic “Baby Joker” Gomez would fumble and give the ball right back to the U. Saadiq Pitts would have two runs of over 15 yards to set up a 3-yard touchdown for Pitts, giving the U a massive score before the half and extending their lead to 19-12. The rain was really starting to affect the game, as the Animals would fumble again on the throw-off, but the U would give the ball right back by way of a Kareen Moon fumble. After a rollercoaster of a final two minutes, the score would remain 19-12 at the half, with the U not attempting a single pass in the first half.

2nd Half

The second half would start by a great 3-on-1 return from Pitts, setting up the U on the Animals’ 18-yard line. Hard Body would score on a 4-yard rushing touchdown, and the U found themselves with a two-score lead just under a minute into the half. The Animals would turn the ball over on downs, and you could feel the U’s momentum building. Hard Body would score again on an 18-yard rush, and the U would get the one-point conversion on their first pass of the game, making the lead 32-12. As it looked like the U could put away this game, Moon would fumble at his own 10-yard line, giving the Animals signs of life. The Animals would get the ball down to the U’s 3-yard line, and the quarter would end with a score of 32-12, the U with the lead.

The fourth quarter would start with consecutive stops from the U’s defense and they would force a fumble, killing any momentum the Animals were building. The U continued to run the ball down the Animals’ throat, but they would complete their first pass of the game that was not on a conversion with just over three minutes left in the quarter. The U would score shortly after as Hard Body would take it 20-yards to the house for his third rushing touchdown of the day and would put the U up 39-12. The U didn’t give the Animals much time to respond, as they would take just under ten minutes on their only drive of the fourth quarter. To make matters worse, the Animals would fumble on their ensuing throw-off to give the ball right back to the U, and they would ice out the game. Turnovers were the story in this one, as the Animals compiled five of them to give the U a very important win against their former quarterback. Final: Paterson U 39 Silk City Animals 12

GAME 2 – 4:00 PM ET

Trenton BIC [3-3] vs Rahway Shnow Tribe [1-3]

WATCH HERE – A7FL.TV and on Youtube @theA7FL

In our second Game of the Week, we would see two teams fighting for playoff positioning in the Trenton BIC and the Rahway Shnow Tribe. The BIC were looking to add upon their 3-1 record while the Shnow Tribe would be fighting for their playoff lives at 1-3.

The game was delayed due to weather for over an hour, but football would be played. The BIC would start with the ball and reigning MVP Sterry Codrington would start the game off with a 53-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion to give the BIC an 8-0 lead just over 30 seconds in. The Shnow Tribe offense couldn’t muster any momentum, but a nice throw-off would pin the BIC at their own one-yard line. The Shnow Tribe defense held firm and forced a throw-off to get the ball back on BIC’s 29-yard line. On their first play of the drive, Max McGee ran it in for a 29-yard touchdown and all of a sudden the score was 8-6. On the following throw-off, Umar Lewis would fumble and give the ball right back to the Shnow Tribe. The BIC defense would make a stand, forcing a turnover on a failed fourth-and-six conversion. The BIC would end the first with the ball on the Shnow Tribe’s 46-yard line and the score remaining 8-6.

On the first play of the second quarter, Donnell “Ice Cream Truck” Hubbert would take a screen all the way to the house to give BIC a 14-6 lead. A methodical drive by the Shnow Tribe that would take over seven minutes of clock would end with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Keels to bring the Shnow Tribe within two, 14-12. Codrington would start the drive with a big run to put the BIC at the Shnow Tribe’s 29-yard line. After a penalty set the BIC back, they would respond with a 38-yard screen pass to Kyle “Smoove” Ward and would finish the drive with a one-yard rush from Ice Cream Truck, making the score 20-12. The final drive for the Shnow Tribe would start on BIC’s 44-yard line, but Keels would throw an 89-yard pick-six to Clavon “JJ” Radcliff to give the BIC all the momentum going into the half and a 26-12 lead.

The second half would start with the Shnow Tribe on offense, but they would have to throw-off back to BIC with 11:56 left in the third. The BIC would drive down the field and score on a speed option pitch to Ice Cream Truck for a 15-yard touchdown, extending the BIC lead to  32-12. The following Shnow Tribe drive would start just inside BIC territory, but a failed 4th-and-6 conversion would give the ball back to BIC with 1:23 left in the third. The quarter would end with BIC on the Shnow Tribe’s 35-yard line and BIC with the lead, 32-12.

The BIC would cap off their drive with a 10-yard rushing touchdown from Codrington, and the Shnow Tribe’s hope for a comeback looked slim with a score of 40-12 with 10:09 left in the fourth. The BIC would come up with a 4th-and-20 stop after a nearly eight minute drive by the Shnow Tribe, and the game would end there. The BIC improve to 4-1 and further solidify a spot in the playoffs while the Shnow Tribe drop to 1-4 and will need some serious help to make the playoffs. Final: Trenton BIC 40 Rahway Shnow Tribe 12

GAME 3 – 7:OO PM ET

Boston Omegas vs. East Orange Renegades

Our final Week 5 Game of the Week would pit the Boston Omegas against the East Orange Renegades. The Omegas (0-4) are looking for their first win in franchise history while the Renegades (2-2) are looking to improve in the playoff standings.

The Omegas would start with the ball first and go three-and-out to set up the Renegades on their own 49-yard line. The drive featured a heavy dose of running back Michael Liberti and would be finished off by a one-yard run by Abdul’s Island to give the Renegades a 6-0 lead with 8:11 left in the opening quarter. The Omega’s offense would stall once again on their next drive and give the ball back to the Renegades on their own 37-yard line. The Renegades continued to show their offensive prowess in the first, driving the ball down to the Omega’s 26-yard line as the quarter ended with the score remaining 6-0.

D’Angelo Brown would take the jet sweep for a 26-yard touchdown on the second play of the quarter to extend the Renegades’ lead to 12-0. A failed fourth down conversion by the Omegas would give the ball right back to the Renegades in Omega territory. As it looked like the Renegades were about to put up another touchdown, the Omegas defense made a 4th-and-goal stand to get the ball back on their own 9-yard line with 1:57 left in the half. Unfortunately for the Omegas, they were unable to put up any points before the half and the Renegades would take a 12-0 lead into the half.

The Renegades would begin the half with the ball on their own 45-yard line. The Renegades offense ran the ball all the way down the field and the drive was capped off by a 9-yard touchdown run by Michael “Rozay” Hendricks, extending the Renegades lead to 18-0. The Omegas offense still could not get anything going, as they would turn the ball over after another failed fourth down conversion. The Renegades would start in Omegas territory on their 31-yard line and would end another drive in the endzone on a 4-yard rushing touchdown, pushing their lead to 25-0. The first offensive play on the ensuing drive for the Omegas would result in a fumble, giving the ball right back to the Renegades in primetime field position to end the third quarter.

The Renegades would take their time on offense but would end up turning the ball over on downs with 10:50 left in the fourth quarter. The Omegas still could not find their offensive rhythm as they would follow suit and turn the ball over on downs on their own 18-yard line. They would score in three plays and cap off the drive with another rushing touchdown from Abdul’s Island, this one of the 4-yard variety and inflating the lead to 31-0. On their first play back on offense, the Omegas would fumble the ball and give it right back to the Renegades. The Renegades would capitalize on the first play of the drive with a 20-yard touchdown on a bubble screen to Abdul’s Island to make the score 39-0 with 2:02 left in the quarter. The Omegas had one final chance to put points on the board, but quarterback Corey Hammond’s pass was tipped and intercepted. Fortunately for the Omegas, they would get an additional chance on a fumble by the Renegades with 0:50 left in the quarter. The Omegas would throw it into the endzone only to get intercepted again, and the Renegades would score one final time to enact the mercy rule. The Renegades would help their position in the standings with a win and the Omegas will search for their first win in Week 6. Final: East Orange Renegades 45 Omegas 0
